This video is an introduction to mental health in police custody. It examines section 136 of the Mental Health Act, the NHS liaison and diversion service and equips ICVs to report on key mental health issues. Additionally, November 2021 saw the release of a joint thematic inspection of the criminal justice journey for individuals with mental health needs and disorders. The lengthy report, which has been contributed to by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons, and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Police, Fire and Rescue Services can be found here. The report covers all aspects of the criminal justice system, including policing, courts, prisons and probation.
