    Nick Hardwick, Chief Inspector of Prisons, has warned of a significant decline in safety in adult male prisons, publishing his annual report. Safety outcomes for prisoners were worst in adult male local prisons and not good enough in a third of all the prisons inspected in 2013-14.

  7. Changes to Codes C + H

    Changes have been made to PACE Codes C (Detention) and H (Detention – Terrorism) in order to implement an EU Directive on the right to information in criminal proceedings in UK law. These revised Notices formed part of a statutory consultation on the proposed changes, which ran from March-April 2014.  The 2014 PACE Revised PACE Codes C and H were laid before Parliament on 14 May 2014 and come into force on 2 June 2014.
